Camping Recipe

Cheesy Tot Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 1 can Golden Mushroom soup
  • 1 can French Onion soup
  • 16 oz frozen tater tots
  • Seasoning salt, to taste
  • 16 oz shredded cheddar cheese

You’ll also need:

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Large skillet
  • Spatula
  • Can opener
  • 9×13 baking dish

Directions:

  • Turn the oven on to 400 degrees
  • Combine the ground beef and diced onion in the skillet and brown the beef over medium heat, crumbling as you go. Cook until the beef is browned thoroughly and the onions are translucent. Drain and discard the grease (but not down the drain).
  • Add both cans of soup to the meat and onions. Stir gently to mix thoroughly.
  • Spread this meat mixture on the bottom of a 9×13 casserole dish. Spread the tater tops evenly across the top. Sprinkle lightly with seasoned salt.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes at 400 degrees or until tater tots are crispy and golden brown.
  • Turn off heat and evenly sprinkle the cheese over the tots. Pop the casserole back in the oven (heat still off) for 5 minutes just to let the cheese melt. Yum!
  • Remove from oven and let stand about 10 minutes before serving.

I love this camping recipe because it comes together so easily – and if you use a disposable aluminum casserole dish, there’s hardly any cleanup to be found! (Same with the leftovers. There will probably be hardly any leftovers to be found, either.)
